Would you explain to me why people from Manchester are so hard for my American ears to understand Was listening to an Oasis interview and needed subtitles!!!

I went to Edinburgh over the weekend. You should hear their peculiar accents !!! Och Aye and all that.

Sometimes we fail to notice how many dialects of English there are. Of course, here in Southwest Pennsylvania we have our own "Pittsburgheese" which sounds downright funny to a lot of the world. I can pretty tell where a person is from in the US after they talk a few minutes. Some very distinct accents here are New York/New Jersey, West Virgina, New England, Texas, Louisiana, and my favorite - The Michigan/Western Ohio/U.P..
I imagine you got the same deal on that side of the pond.
